The Differences Between Our Pets
Although I have provided information for feeding dogs, cats, puppies and kittens on separate pages so you can get information, tips and techniques that specifically relates to your situation, much of the information is similar or the same. So I thought, I would take this opportunity to highlight the significant differences between dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.
Ratio of meat and vegetables:
- Mature Dogs:
- 2 parts meat to 1 part vegetables
- Mature Cats:
- 3 parts meat to 1 part vegetables
- Puppies:
- 3 parts meat to 1 part vegetables
- Kittens:
- 3 parts meat to 1 part vegetables
Not all cats are going to eat vegetables. While not all cats will eat vegetables, some will. In some situations, I have also not fed dogs vegetables. Ultimately, meat is the most important aspect of the diet for both dogs and cats. But vegetables can and do play a valuable role, more so for dogs.
Feedings per day:
- Age
- Feedings Per Day
- 1 - 3 months
- 4 to 6 times per day
- 3 - 6 months
- 3 to 4 times per day
- 6 - 12 months
- 2 times per day
- 1 year and older
- once per day
